SUPERDAY FOR DUCATI / STONER / CAPIROSSI

LORIS CAPIROSSI SCORES GREAT MOTEGI WIN,

CASEY STONER 2007 WORLD CHAMPION

Sunday Sep 23 2007

The Ducati MotoGp Team enjoyed its greatest day in Japan today, Casey Stoner securing Ducati's first MotoGP World Championship and Loris Capirossi winning the race, run in tricky conditions on a drying track. The result triggered scenes of unbridled joy in the Ducati MotoGp Team pit, in the more than one thousand fans who watched the race in the Borgo Panigale Factory with the CEO Gabriele Del Torchio among them and in all the Ducatistis around the world.

Australian genius Stoner had to finish today's race ahead of Valentino Rossi to wrap up the title with three GPs remaining, and he did that, no problem, finishing sixth after leading the early stages. The race couldn't have been more nerve-wracking: it started on a slightly damp track, most riders choosing rain tyres, then the circuit dried out enough for riders to swap to slick-equipped bikes. Capirossi was one of the first riders to switch, at the end of lap nine, and his strategy paid rich dividends, the 2005 and 2006 Japanese GP winner going on to score a Motegi hat-trick, 10.853 seconds ahead of his closest rival. Stoner swapped bikes at the end of lap 14 and maintained his renowned cool to become the second youngest premier-class World Champion, after American legend Freddie Spencer. So far this year Stoner has won eight races, taken three further podium finished and scored five pole positions.

CASEY STONER, 6th, 2007 MotoGP World Champion on 297 points

"At the moment it all feels a little bit unrealistic! I'm struggling for words, I don't think there's any feeling that can compare to this, but I think it's really going to sink in as the day goes on and heads into tomorrow. The race started out quite well, we were able to get up front quite early and I had a reasonably good feeling with the bike, I was in a happy position. But then my rain tyres started wearing out as the track dried, and Valentino and Dani (Pedrosa) came past. I didn't really know whether to come in or not, then my team put 'box' on my pitboard, so I had a bit more confidence to come in. After I changed bikes there was something up with the steering damper, the bike wasn't allowing me to tip into corners, so I had to slow down to unwind it. Then I started to find more of a rhythm, Valentino had a problem and we managed to finish ahead of him. I guess that was the aim of the game today. Towards the end everything was creeping into my head, so I just tried to stay focused on the job in hand, I wanted to bring it home for my team. The whole thing is a bit overwhelming, because we didn't really expect to get the championship today, it's come on me quite quickly. There's a lot of people I have to thank: my parents, who have always been there for me, they've supported me throughout my career, my wife Adriana's who's been there this season and the past few and everyone else who's helped me along the way - Ducati, my whole team, Bridgestone tyres, a big thanks to everyone who's had anything to with my career - we finally did it!"

LORIS CAPIROSSI, winner, 7th in World Championship on 130 points

"We struggled a lot this weekend and only yesterday did we find a better set-up solution. When I woke this morning and saw the rain I said 'wow, for sure this is going to be a difficult day'. We didn't know which would be the best tyres to use, so we started with medium rain tyres. At first it was really difficult, so I decided to pit early, and for sure my tactic was the best because I won my third consecutive race here, it's a great moment for me. It's also a great day for Casey, for Ducati and for the team. I congratulate Casey, he's a really strong rider, I'm very happy for him."

GABRIELE DEL TORCHIO CEO Ducati Motor Holding

"This success, besides its great strategic value, is the best demonstration of Ducati excellence, is a triumph of Italian intelligence, talent, competences and the warmth that is one of our country's most vital assets. It's an important and remarkable achievement, 34 years after the premier-class World Championship was last won by an Italian factory. It is a dream come true. We are speaking of a great feat realised thanks to Casey's commitment, bravery and team work, united with the work of our draughtsmen, technicians, engineers, team members, sponsors and everyone at the factory. They have all worked with great passion and great skill to obtain this championship win, a success emphasized by today's win by Loris, to whom we say a hearty thank you for the great job he's done these past five years. The joy and the pride of experiencing this historic championship result pay back all our efforts and can only encourage us towards even more important and remarkable goals, both in the sporting and commercial arenas."

CLAUDIO DOMENICALI, Ducati Corse CEO/Ducati Motor Holding product director

"It is a dream come true - a fantastic feeling, really fantastic. I don't have enough words to thank all the guys who have contributed to this incredible achievement, which shows that Italy is a nation whose passion and talent can succeed in a hugely technically advanced field. It's certainly a good reason for Italians to be proud - proud about the talent of our engineers and about the quality of our universities. It is also a sign that allows Italy to look to the future and into globalization with a pinch more optimism."

MORE AWARDS FOR DUCATI

Readers of "Motorrad" in Germany and "In Moto" in Italy vote their "Motorcycle of the year 2007"

This time it was the votes of readers of two top-flight international magazines - the German publication "Motorrad" and the Italian mag "IN MOTO" - that decreed which would be the best motorcycle of 2007. Once again Ducati played a leading role, stealing the scene and winning both consensus and awards - clear indicators of the continuing worldwide success enjoyed by the latest "made in Borgo Panigale" models.

This international award involves some of the most important magazines in the industry. In Italy votes were gathered by the monthly magazine IN MOTO: on Tuesday 13th March, after counting up the 24,853 ballot papers sent in to the editors, the "Motorcycles of the year 2007" were finally made known.

Ducati triumphed in a good three of the eight categories into which the motorcycles were divided, winning first place among the sports models (with the superbly stylish and high performance 1098 of course) with 29.9% of the vote. The runner-up was the MV Agusta F4 1000 R and in third place it was Ducati yet again with the Desmosedici RR, the esoteric and exclusive MotoGP road replica. The Multistrada 1100 - in the road bikes category- also came up trumps by coming first with 12% of the votes, ahead of the Yamaha FZ1 Fazer and the Moto Guzzi 1200 Sport. In the enduro/supermotard category it was a landslide victory for the all-new Hypermotard (to be launched on the market in May): sweeping aside the competition, it took a massive 33.5% of the votes, beating the BMW R 1200 GS and KTM 950 Supermoto hands down.

During the night of 15th March, the renowned German magazine MOTORRAD which, with a circulation of 200,000 copies, is Europe's most-read bike mag, also elected the best motorcycles of 2007: readers sent in a whopping 36,672 ballot papers.

Once again, there were eight categories and, once again, Ducati cornered the votes.

In the sports motorcycles category awards were won by two Ducatis; in first place came the 1098, with 12.1% of the vote, followed by the Desmosedici RR (11.2%).

Like in Italy, it was a surprise victory for Ducati in the enduro/supermotard category where, with a percentage of 18.3%, the Hypermotard beat - playing away! - the German BMW GS 1200 (16.8 %). Acknowledged by 29% of readers as the best sports motorcycle brand, Ducati trounced the opposition in this segment, too, winning over 29 % of the readers of this authoritative German publication, who preferred the "Reds of Borgo Panigale" to Suzuki (12.2%) and Yamaha (10.1%).

PUMA® And Ducati Start Their Engines With New Panigale Footwear

Inspired by PUMA's Motorsports Tradition, the Two Iconic Brands Invent Moto Lifestyle

The first fruits of the PUMA®-Ducati collaboration - the Panigale - arrive in stores this April. This exciting shoe is specifically designed by Puma with creative insights from the Ducati Design Team. The name itself refers to Borgo Panigale, the Bologna-city area where Ducati has had its headquarters since 1926.

Attention to detail has always been an important element for Ducati and with a close link to the Puma Moto performance world - such as PUMA's Formula 1-inspired footwear - this shoe invents a new style for sneakers: Moto Lifestyle.

Taking inspiration from PUMA® research on its Moto GP boots, the Panigale has an outrigger on the forefoot which reminds of the forefoot sliders from the Moto 1000, the competition boot, as well as an exo-skeletal support structure in the heel to improve comfort without making the product heavier.

Infused with Ducati-design DNA, the Panigale uses key elements from most contemporary bike designs from the brand, and in particular from their high performance bikes, true icons from the Italian company. A truly innovative style, the shoe is built around a 360-degree graphic, which represents the famous "racing stripe" on the S4Rs. Materials also remind consumers of the characteristics of Ducati's bikes: glossy leather upper, carbon-optic heel construction, and traditional white, black and red color combinations taken directly from the flashy colors of the Ducati motorcycles.

Available in six colors for Recommended Retail Price of €110, the Panigale will be available starting April 2 exclusively at Foot Locker through out Europe, Puma Stores worldwide, and starting May in Ducati stores.

DUCATI DESMOSEDICI GP7 UNVEILED AT MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO

The Dolomite mountain scenery of Madonna di Campiglio formed the spectacular backdrop for the official launch of the new Ducati Desmosedici GP7 today. The wraps were pulled off the all-new Italian bike by Loris Capirossi and Casey Stoner, the two Ducati Marlboro Team factory riders who will spearhead the Italian manufacturer's attack in the first year of the new 800cc category.

It took place at Wroom 2007, the traditional ski meeting held on the snows of Madonna di Campiglio and reserved for the international press which offers the chance for media and journalists from all over the world to meet Ducati Marlboro Team riders and management.

The Desmosedici GP7 is characterized by having a new and exclusive colour scheme called "Red Racing Chrome", produced with a special paint that is destined to highlight the lines and the design of the new machine as well as guaranteeing an extremely technological and innovative chrome effect.

Naturally the new livery is not the only innovation surrounding the 2007 MotoGP bike. The 800cc engine is also completely new. Smaller and narrower than the 990 unit, the new engine is characterized by having a conventional firing-order that benefits the maximum power and helps with the fuel consumption.

The concept of the engine as a load-bearing structure, with a shorter chassis and the sub-frame mounted directly on the engine and no longer on the frame, has also been optimized, thus allowing a strengthening of the entire foot-peg area.

Major attention has also been dedicated to a lightening and further refining of all components.

The following are selected remarks by Federico Minoli, President and CEO of Ducati, Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Corse, and Team official riders Loris Capirossi and Casey Stoner.

"It seems that despite being a very small company and despite bending over backwards" commented Federico Minoli regarding Ducati's commitment in MotoGP, "there is an almost magical combination of genius, technology and all-Italian passion that allows us to remain at the same high level as last year."

"I am proud to present the new Desmosedici GP7, a project that currently represents the peak of Ducati know-how" declared Claudio Domenicali during the press conference. "The bike features a mixture of technology and evolution and has already given us excellent results on the track in the first tests."

"They tell me I'm a MotoGP dinosaur and for this reason I have decided to play on this description by changing my classic Capirex logo to Capi-T-rex" commented Loris Capirossi. "This is my eighteenth year in the world championship but you can be sure of one thing: the feeling with the bike is the same as ever and I still really enjoy my racing, so now I am in form, fired-up and ready to give my everything again in this new season."

"There is nothing that makes me happier than being a Ducati rider", declared Stoner, currently the youngest rider on the MotoGP grid. "The bike has improved and become more and more competitive ever since its debut in MotoGP, and so have the Bridgestone tyres, something that I could see in the first tests."

The Ducati Marlboro Team will leave Madonna di Campiglio on Friday morning for Malaysia, where it will take part in the first tests of the 2007 season at Sepang

from January 22-24.

DUCATI SPORTCLASSICS

READY FOR 2007, THE SPORT 1000 BIPOSTO, THE SPORT 1000 S AND A NEW TWO-TONE LIVERY FOR THE GT 1000

The SportClassic family, which has met with great success since its first appearance, replicates the styling of the motorcycles built in Ducati's workshops in the 1970s, characterised by a minimalist, sporting look, with an exposed frame and bodyparts in soft, rounded shapes. To emphasis the unique style of these bikes, Ducati has used top-level original components and finishes, featuring chrome and brightwork that provide the final touch, personalise the range and evoke the lines of the bikes from which they're inspired.

The whole SportClassic family mates retro style with modern technology and mounts the brilliant Desmo 1000 DS engine: delivering impressive torque, this air-cooled 90° "L" twin-cylinder is the ideal engine for these new sports models. The cylinders, with their traditional cooling fins and classic L-configuration, harken to the original design by Taglioni. The 1000 DS engine is equipped with the Desmo twin-valve system, fuel injection and an electronic engine control to guarantee power, reliability, thrilling performance and ease of use.

As of 2007, the Sport 1000 will be available in two new versions: as well as the traditional single-seater, the Sport 1000 will be produced in an updated two-seater version for the new season, with a comfortable seat for both rider and pillion, complete with removable seat-cover so as to leave that perfect Café Racer style undiminished.

Another two-seater version is the new Sport 1000 S, with a seductive new colour scheme of red frame and swingarm with black wheel rims and engine covers, and featuring a classic upper fairing with a round central headlamp, to give it a more aggressive look in keeping with 1970's tradition.

As well as its two traditional colours, red and grey, the GT 1000 will be presented in an original new two-tone livery of metallic black and cream, which recalls the original designs of this Ducati grand tourer.

SPORT 1000 biposto

In the 1970s, the most sports-oriented motorcyclists used to modify their road bikes according to what they saw on the track, including clip-ons handlebars, rear set footrests and aggressive colours. The aim was not just to make your bike look better but to enhance its performance too. And that's how the Café Racer style came into being. The Ducati Sport 1000 elegantly captures the audacious look of the motorcycles of that era.

This year, as well as the single-seat version, the SportClassic stable includes the new Sport 1000 biposto, a two-seater which features a comfortable double seat, raised clip-ons to make the riding position even more comfortable and retro style twin rear shocks.

The removable passenger seat-cover, colour-matched with the bike, keeps the Sport 1000 biposto true Café Racer looks intact, but take it off and you'll find a comfortable pillion seat underneath.

The two-seater version of the Sport 1000 embodies the same high quality and advanced technology as its single-seat counterpart. Mounting high-performance Marzocchi 43 mm upside down forks up front, twin Sachs shock rear suspension which are fully adjustable for spring pre-load, and compression and rebound damping. The two rear shocks are fixed at the bottom to an oversize 60 mm diameter tubular steel swingarm, which features a simple, rational system (reminiscent of the one used on the 1970s bikes) for adjusting chain tension.

Lastly, there's a new exhaust system (Euro 3) culminating in two symmetrical silencers on the right and left of the bike.

The special colour combinations put the distinctive finishing touches to this bike. The Sport 1000 two-seater is available in three different colours, featuring the characteristic longitudinal stripe down the middle of the fuel tank and tail section. The colours available for this model are: Burnt yellow with black stripe, Gloss black with white stripe and Ducati Red with white stripe, all three with a black frame.

SPORT 1000 S

Following the 1970s trend for uncompromising individualism and enhanced performance, Ducati introduces the Sport 1000 S with a classic aerodynamic upper fairing which takes its styling cues directly from the "Race" models of the era.

It may be a two-seater, but the Sport 1000 S retains all the hallmark Café Racer styling, with the added benefit that you can enjoy its impressive performance either alone or two-up.

The new colour scheme retains the characteristic longitudinal white stripe, while offering red on red for the frame and fairing. The spoked wheels with aluminium rims, the hub and the exhaust pipes are black, along with a number of other engine parts, for a stark contrast with the red frame and fairing. This contrast gives the new Sport 1000 S an attractive and decidedly aggressive look, without compromising its retro form and charm. The removable rear seat cover contributes to the typical Café Racer look of the Sport 1000 S, but take it off and you'll find a comfortable pillion seat underneath. What's more, the bike features an unmistakeable 1970s style upper fairing with the pronounced, rounded shape that characterised the great competition bikes.

The Sport 1000 S was built with close attention to the quality of its components. The race-bred trellis frame and sports suspension give the bike outstanding road-holding. The Sport 1000 S mounts high-performance Marzocchi 43mm upside down forks with chromed forks caps, for a classic look, while rear suspension duties are handled by a high-performance Sachs twin shocks, which are fully adjustable for spring pre-load, compression and rebound damping.

The style of the Sport 1000 S is classic Café Racer and delivers both outstanding road-holding and the typical performance of a thoroughbred Ducati.

GT 1000

Born as a tribute to the essential beauty of the Ducati GT models of the 1970s, the GT 1000 is ideal for everyday use, thanks to its perfect balance between comfort, whether you ride alone or two-up, and the performance of the Ducati Desmo twin-cylinder engine. Every part and component is made with the highest quality materials and designed with performance in mind - and that's just as it should be for a bike based on the historic models from Ducati's heritage. Despite being unashamedly classic in inspiration, the GT is still a thoroughly modern Ducati when it comes to power, handling, safety and a thrilling ride.

The feeling you get astride the GT 1000 is one of comfort and complete control of the bike. The riding position is comfortable and upright. The double-seat is comfortably padded, has a classic design and boasts the Ducati logo in white on the back. The rider's footrests are set forward for maximum comfort and optimum ground clearance. And because the GT 1000 is a true two-seater, the position of the pillion footrests is designed for maximum comfort even on long trips.

The form of the GT 1000 represents a modern interpretation of the classic lines of the original GT of the 1970s. The slim, ergonomic fuel tank has two indents on the sides to accommodate the rider's legs comfortably, and is crowned with a chromed fuel cap. The front and rear mudguards, and side panels are reminiscent of the 1970s originals. Many parts, such as the top yoke and handlebar clamps are made of polished aluminium, which compliments with the chrome finish of the wheels, handlebars, rear-view mirrors, instrument panel and other components. The exhaust system is also chromed and is made up of manifolds with a double wall construction to keep the chromed surface untarnished over time.

The big new feature this year is the two-tone version of the GT 1000, in metallic black and cream, based on the classic two-tone livery of the Ducati GT 750 launched in 1971.

THE NEW RANGE OF DUCATI-BIANCHI BICYCLES PRESENTED IN MILAN

The new range of Ducati-Bianchi 'high-powered' bicycles has been presented to the Italian press at the 64th International Bicycle Exhibition in Milan. The bikes are a result of close collaboration between Ducati and Bianchi, two prestigious Italian brands famous throughout the world for their success in sport and racing competition in particular.

This exclusive range of bicycles, which will be distributed throughout the world in specialized shops only from January 1st 2007, is the result of the combination of a captivating young design and meticulous materials research.

The products in this brand-new range have been made with the best technology available on the market today in terms of performance and safety: this includes high modulus carbon fibre (Tube to Tube technology), which guarantees precise combinations among the individual tubes thus obtaining a high stiffness/weight ratio, Hydro-forming aluminium which pushes stiffness levels above the limit, and precious Hyperalloy, which makes the frame lighter and enhances resistance to shock impact.

Factory, Scrambler and Panigale are the three models available in the Ducati-Bianchi range. Factory, like the official Ducati Corse motorcycles, for the four racing bicycles; Scrambler, the name of one of the most trend-setting Ducati bikes of the 1970s, for the three mountain bikes; and finally Panigale, the area on the outskirts of Bologna where the legendary Ducati factory can be found, for the fashion street bike of the range. These eight exclusive bicycles stand out for their essential and clean design but above all for their Ducati red colour, which has always been the symbol of the racing division of the famous Italian manufacturer.

DUCATIMONSTER S4R TESTASTRETTA

The Monster 2007 range is now bigger and better with the new S4R Testastretta. This new bike gains the famous 130 Hp Testastretta low sump L-twin engine, previously mounted only on the top version S4Rs Testastretta.

Founder of the SR family, this bike takes upon a very important role, coming up alongside the S4R s Tes-tastretta which represents the current performance and equipment apotheosis. The S4R develops and increases in power going from 117 Hp of the previous engine, to the 130 Hp of the Testastretta, main-taining its' very important role in the SR family: its two sided mufflers, the aluminium trellis single-sided swingarm, the small fairing, the exclusive paint schemes, the high quality suspensions, joined together with the powerful low sump Testastretta engine, is a milestone in the development of the Monster S4R Testastretta.

A bike that, in the new Ducati 2007 range, has a very important role, catching the attention of the most exigent performance-oriented Ducatista.

The S4R Testastretta is different from the "s" version due to the suspension. The front forks are now fully adjustable upside- down Showa's, giving the customer the possibility of a perfectly balanced bike. The rear is fully adjustable with piggy back shock absorbers by Sachs, allowing modification of suspension settings. The height of the rear of the bike is adjustable too by the modification of the length of the push rod.

Whilst respecting the previous version, the S4R MY '07, has, like the S4RS, the prestigious Brembo front brake system too. The front has now a prettier look thanks to the new front fork bottom end, pur-posely created to fit the Brembo radial callipers.

The new S4R Testastretta is now available in two new colour schemes Titanium with central black stripe, and in the traditional Ducati red with central white stripe.

Both colour versions have the red frame with the black painted swingarm, just like the new Showa front fork bottom end. A lot of the other components are black painted: the headlamp support, the steering plates, the risers, the footrests and the water cooler side covers.

The bike will be available in the early October.

MULTISTRADA 1100

The new Multistrada 1100 widens the horizons of all those who are "sport motorcyclists" at heart but still want a bike they can use seven days a week. Riding a Multistrada makes every road a thrill. The punchy new 1100 Desmo L-Twin engine delivers smoother, more tractable power delivery and, coupled with a refined chassis, delivers confi-dent handling and optimal comfort, even over long distances.

The unmistakable Ducati Trellis frame combines with fully-adjustable suspension to adapt the bike to any road condi-tion and every riding style, while rider comfort has been further improved with new vibration-isolated handlebars.

Superb road holding, a powerful new 1100 engine and all day comfort gives the versatile Multistrada a unique per-sonality and character in true Ducati style.

The 1100 is the latest evolution of the Multistrada concept, introduced by Ducati at the start of 2003. It contains all of the innovations that helped to make the model a true point of reference for a totally new market segment.

The characteristic two-part nose fairing, with a transparent screen that moves with the handlebars, allows better than average steering manoeuvrability. The unique tank and seat assembly comes from a single moulding and pro-vides a fuel capacity of 20 litres; one of the innovations on the Multistrada 1100 is the inclusion of a fuel reserve sensor. The joint action of the fuel level gauge and the new sensor guarantees a reliable and constant indication of the amount of fuel remaining in the tank at all times.

Two display management functions are new features on the 1100 model: trip fuel and auto "light off" system. The former is an additional trip meter that is activated when the fuel reserve light is on, while the latter is a feature that automatically switches off the lights after 60 seconds of key-on if the engine is not running.

Other style features of the Multistrada that remain unchanged on the 1100 version are the front headlight cluster, the single-sided aluminium swingarm, the tail section and the aggressive exhaust unit.

Like the rest of the 2007 range the Multistrada 1100 fully complies with EURO 3 exhaust emissions: the lambda probe inside the muffler unit combined with a three-way catalytic converter ensure maximum efficiency. The function of the lambda probe is to detect the amount of oxygen present in exhaust gases and gauge the fuel mixture. In this way the oxygen concentration through the catalytic converter allows the correct chemical reaction and the three-way converter oxydizes the unburnt hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide and reduces the nitrogen oxides.

MULTISTRADA 1100 S

Due to its world-class suspension and componentry level, this version is for those riders who demand the ultimate in sports performance. It is based on the Multistrada 1100 but features a number of components derived from the Ducati Superbikes, including fully-adjustable Öhlins suspension and carbon fibre highlights.

The Multistrada 1100S is to all intents and purposes a production special, a bike that is capable of highlighting the sporting characteristics of a model whose winning feature is its versatility.

The 1100 features a number of racing components including a front mudguard and cam belt covers in carbon fibre, as well as exclusive variable-section alloy handlebars, which from this year are fitted with vibration isolator mounts. The prestigious Öhlins suspension, derived from the Superbikes, bring clear benefits in terms of superior road han-dling as well as an exclusive quality look.

DUCATI MOTOGP TEAM 2006

New Ducati Desmosedici GP06 launched. In a unique and spectacular setting - the finish-line of the legendary ‘3-Tre’ course at Campiglio - the Ducati MotoGP Team pulled the wraps off the Desmosedici GP06, the new MotoGP machine that Loris Capirossi and Sete Gibernau will be campaigning this season. Here are the comments from Federico Minoli, President and CEO of Ducati Motor, and Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Corse and of course from the team riders: Loris Capirossi and Sete Gibernau.

FEDERICO MINOLI

Federico Minoli introduces the Ducati MotoGP Team: "We race to win and in our fourth year of participation in MotoGP we expect to win more than we did in 2005. We are sure that the team is stronger this year and we are ready for this fourth season with all the right cards to get some good results and to capitalize on our investment, also in view of the development of new technology aimed at our production sector. Racing is in Ducati`s DNA, we feel that we are responsible for taking and communicating Italian technology all over the world, and we are proud to be able to do so. Right from the start of the project we have had a positive collaboration with Philip Morris and I am extremely pleased to announce that Ducati Corse has extended the sponsorship agreement with Philip Morris International until 2011. It is a unique partnership, one that since 2003 has linked together two of the most prestigious names in the world with the positive results that are visible for everyone to see. Together we can look forward to the future and the victories to come."

CLAUDIO DOMENICALI

Claudio Domenicali, explains the key technical changes for the new bike: "Racing in MotoGP allows us to operate with machines that are pure prototypes, developing technology that will subsequently be transferred to our production bikes. Ducati has always borrowed concepts and innovations from the racing world, and we transfer the possible benefits to our entire production range. The Desmosedici GP06 represents an evolution of the GP05; apparently it doesn’t present any marked differences with its predecessor, but it is in fact an important step forward. The bike is lighter but we have done a lot of work on its stiffness (with the frame, rims and front forks), especially at the rear of the bike. The composite structure that we call the seat support has been totally redesigned and stiffness has been increased by more than 80%. The bike’s ergonomics have undergone a notable evolution with the fuel tank modified in line with requests from the riders. We have also focussed on the bike’s ‘driveability’, and in this area we have made available a whole new range of instruments and technologies that will allow the race engineers to package the power behaviour and delivery of the engine according to the requests of the riders and the conditions of the track. We have also worked on engine power, modifying the internal fluid dynamics and as a result we have a different thermodynamic layout. We have attempted to increase power as well as reduce fuel consumption, an area to which we have dedicated a lot of attention, by working maniacally on engine friction. One point of which we are particularly proud is the reliability of the bike; in 2005 we took part in 17 races with two riders, without ever having a problem, and we have also maintained this line for the next season. The evolution of the bike has obviously involved our partner, Bridgestone. Even though we know that we still have some work to do on certain kinds of track, we also know that we are on the right road and the results of the last few races of last season confirmed this improvement; our aim now is to be competitive at every circuit. The 2006 team is a very strong one on the rider front. Loris is a confirmation for us and as soon as the bike-tyre package allows, he makes no mistakes and brings home great results. A warm welcome for Sete Gibernau, whose joining us is a clear demonstration of the importance that is given in our team to the role of the riders: Sete is a great rider and he and Loris together make up a great team."

LORIS CAPIROSSI

"I have seen the birth of this project and I consider it to be an honour be in the team and riding the Desmosedici. It is a fantastic, stimulating project that has given us some great satisfaction and , I feel sure, will give us some more this season. For 2006 we have an extremely efficient package with great potential, thanks to the development and evolution that the bike has had and to the collaboration with similarly motivated and capable partners, like Bridgestone."

SETE GIBERNAU

"Being in a team which is 100% behind me, with the ambitions, the means and the enthusiasm to produce good results, is like realizing a dream. Every day that goes by I feel better in the team and I am sure that it will be an entertaining season, full of satisfaction and that I will be capable of repaying the trust that has been put in me. It’s going to be a difficult year, because every year MotoGP becomes more and more difficult and competitive, but I’m not afraid of the job ahead."

MONSTER S2R 1000 : CHARACTER AND PERFORMANCE

Powerful, aggressive, original and extreme, the Monster S2R 1000 has arrived, the newest model in the Monster family. The Ducati Monster is the ultimate naked bike, a product of ingenuity and intuition, with a design that gave birth to a whole new trend. With its clean, pared-down lines, the Monster S2R 1000 maintains all the styling and functional features of the SR line, including the signature frame and running gear. The twin vertically stacked silencers mounted on the right side and the single-sided swingarm in aluminium alloy distinguish the Monster SR from the rest of the competition. The Monster S2R 1000 will take its place between the agile S2R 800 and the extreme power of the 4-valve S4R. The S2R 1000 boasts outstanding rideability and scintillating performance thanks to the reliable and powerful 1000 Dual Spark engine, the latest evolution of the air-cooled L-twin made in Borgo Panigale, already proved successful on other models in the Ducati range. The S2R 1000 suspension features a fully-adjustable Showa upside-down fork that allows riders to adapt the riding characteristics of the bike to suit different road conditions and individual riding style, thus increasing comfort and riding pleasure. The rear suspension is progressive and adjustable with a Sachs single shock. To maximise braking power, the Monster S2R 1000 uses two 320 mm discs with 4-piston calipers in the front, and a 245 mm disc with a 2-piston caliper at the rear. To make the new Monster S2R 1000 still more unique and eye-catching, the bike comes in new colour combinations: grey with a longitudinal black racing stripe complemented by black rims, classic red with a white racing stripe and aggressive black with a white racing stripe. No matter what colour the S2R 1000 is, the carbon fibre side panels further enhance the overall look. The S2R 1000 adheres to the Euro 3 emission standards, with the efficient Dual Spark 1000 engine combined with catalytic converters and a Lambda sensor.

Frame and running gear

The Monster S2R 1000 uses the same frame as the Monster 1000 and inherits the all the latest refinements applied to the SR range, one of the most important of these being increased ground clearance, allowing for a greater lean angle. Another significant feature is the tubular aluminium single-sided swingarm that is 20% lighter than the conventional swingarm used on the Monster 1000 and features an extruded arm with an oval cross-section for maximum rigidity. The tubes of the upper trellis of the swingarm are precision welded in a layout designed to optimise rigidity and strength. This type of swingarm allows for a more compact exhaust system, with two small vertically-stacked silencers that give the new Monster S2R 1000 a truly unique look. The aluminium side stand and footpegs are common to the entire SR line and the footpegs are positioned close to the longitudinal axis of the bike, allowing the rider to assume a more streamlined riding position with the legs tucked up snug against the tank. Some other prestigious features of the Monster S2R 1000 include Marchesini 5-spoke wheels with 5.5” rear rim, allowing fatter tyres to be fitted (180/55), and variabe cross-section tapered aluminium handlebars that reduce weight while maintaining increased rigidity. All these improvements, which confer outstanding handling and superior stability, are complemented by 43 mm Showa upside–down forks with adjustable preload, compression and rebound damping. The rear shock absorber is a Sachs with adjustable spring prelaod and rebound damping, and features an adjustable length linkage thus enabling ride height adjustment indipendent from spring pre-load. The braking system also designed after racing bikes, with dual 320 mm front discs and 4-piston calipers and a 245 mm rear disc with dual-piston caliper. 1000 Dual Spark Desmo engine When choosing the power plant that would achieve exactly right balance between the lively Monster S2R 800cc and the extreme power of the 4-valve Monster S4R, the ideal solution was the muscular 992 cc air-cooled 2-cylinder Desmodue, the Ducati 1000 Dual Spark engine, known and appreciated for its abundant torque and excellent reliability. Compact, powerful and universally acknowledged as the ultimate expression of the Ducati philosophy of air-cooled twin design, the 1000 Dual Spark Desmo – already used on the top of the range models in the Multistrada and Super Sport families – represents the result of decades of experience and a whole series of innovations that extend from the combustion chambers to the crankshaft. The end result is a powerful engine that is particularly exuberant in the mid-range and generally acknowledged as the most advanced air-cooled L-twin ever designed. In addition to offering the significant advantages of an air-cooled power plant, the 1000 DS also draws inspiration from the Testastretta engine used in competitive racing, including the special casting techniques used to make the cylinder heads, the use of oil-pressurized plain bearings to support the camshafts, and the angles and configuration of the valves. All this, plus the exclusive Dual Spark ignition system which, with its "double flame front", offers more complete combustion, while simultaneously boosting mid-range power and reducing emission levels. A closer look at the 1000 DS engine reveals a reduced angle between the intake and exhaust valves, one of the basic principles behind the renowned Testastretta engine design, which allows for a more compact combustion chamber, reducing the volume and thus obtaining improved combustion. The improved efficiency of the combustion chamber of the Monster S2R 1000 allows the engine to run on a leaner air/fuel mixture without compromising performance at high temperatures and significantly reduces emissions of hydrocarbons (HC). The camshafts are supported on oil pressurized plain bearings which reduce the overall dimensions, the weight, and the number of moving parts, while also assisting with heat dispersal. The new configuration also puts the camshafts in a more direct relationship with the valves, reducing friction and stress on valve components and thus increasing reliability. In fact, although the cylinder head is more compact, it allows more space for the intake and exhaust valves, these being 45 mm and 40 mm in diameter. Further innovations include valve seats made of beryllium bronze, a technologically advanced material that affords better heat dispersal and wear-resistance and thus maintains valve clearances more accurately over a longer period of time. The bore and piston stroke both contribute significantly to the improved power delivery. To ensure high performance in the mid-range, the crankshaft, cylinder bore and piston have been modified to obtain a 94mm bore with a 71.5mm piston stroke. The pistons are now fitted with nitride steel rings which afford improved sealing and significantly reduce oil consumption. The 94 mm pistons are linked to the crankshaft with new connecting rods, made from a new material composition (30NiCrMo4) that has exceptional flow characteristics during forging. In cross section, the new rod is thinner in one dimension, but wider in the other to confer both strength and lightness for increased reliability and performance. The new crankshaft is a more compact design and the oil passages have been strategically repositioned in areas less critical for its structural strength. The result is a crankshaft that is more rigid and with less flex, making for less vibration and improved reliability. Finally, both the clutch housing and the clutch plates are now made from a special aluminium alloy. Thanks to this new material, the Monster SR2 clutch has a significantly longer service life due to the more balanced wear factor of the alloy. The clutch now runs quieter due to improved tolerances and the lower resonance of aluminium compared to steel.

DUCATI MOTOR HOLDING ARRIVES IN CHINA

Long-term partnership agreement announced with important Chinese company on the eve of the Grand Prix of China

DUCATI MOTOR HOLDING ARRIVES IN CHINA

Shanghai (China), 28 April 2005 - On the eve of motorcycle racing's first-ever grand prix in China, Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A (NYSE: DMH, Borsa Italiana S.p.A: DMH) wishes to announce its arrival in that market. The news was announced in Shanghai by Federico Minoli, Chairman and CEO of Ducati, during a meeting with the international press present at the Chinese round of the World MotoGP championship, and in the presence of Ducati Marlboro Team riders, Loris Capirossi and Carlos Checa, a delegation from the Emilia-Romagna regional authorities and with the support of Shell Advance, Ducati's technical partner in sporting as well as production activities, and with the on-site consultancy of 'Nuovo Mondo International'.

For its arrival in China, the Italian manufacturer, based in Borgo Panigale, Bologna, has reached a long-term partnership agreement with Three on The Bund, represented by Mr Handel Lee, a successful Chinese entrepreneur in the field of large-scale retail trade, who is also a great fan of Ducati.

The marketing strategy drawn up for Ducati's entry into this market will evolve in three precise ways. The first regards the importation of motorbikes, accessories and spare parts into China. This will involve the opening of two stores, one in Beijing and the other in Shanghai, which will import Ducati bikes directly from Italy. Prestigious, expensive, high-performance motorbikes belong to a sector which in China is yet to take off but it is an area that offers major potential growth. Ducati is therefore banking on the exclusive and Italian nature of its bikes and on the particular features of its products to enter into this important market, following a strategy that has already been traced by other important Italian companies, Ferrari first and foremost.

The other aspect on which Ducati is concentrating energies and resources is clothing distribution, with an agreement that is already in place with Three on The Bund Retail. The company has opened up a store in Shanghai, which is achieving great success with the sale of Ducati clothing and which has enabled the Italian brand to spread its name in China before the arrival of its bikes.

The third strategy aspect is the development of the Ducati brand, which will follow the history of this Italian manufacturer, that is through racing. Ducati is the only Italian manufacturer present in MotoGP, and it is through participation in this championship and in this first-ever Grand Prix of China, that Ducati will organise two riding schools in circuits, one in Beijing and one in Shanghai, where the bikes will also be available for Chinese fans who wish to experience all the excitement of riding the twin-cylinder Italian machines.

"In China we are certain to start off in the right way" declared Federico Minoli, Chairman and CEO of Ducati Motor Holding. "We are starting with racing, because all of our activities and products are born on the track. From here we will create the riding schools, because it is only by developing a passion for these esoteric and special bikes that the market can then follow us."

"The passion that I have for this glorious marque" added Handel Lee, Chairman of Three on The Bund, "is both a source of pride and a stimulation to promote and develop Ducati's entry into the Chinese market. I am honoured by this partnership and I am sure that Ducati will also have a great future in this country."

Carlo Alberto del Mastro, Shell Global Motorcycle Oil Brand and Sponsorship Manager: 'For Shell, China is a very important country - and to be able to accompany Ducati with their first steps in to this market is a fantastic opportunity. Just like Ducati, we test our products on the race track and then, once they have been proven in the toughest environment - MotoGP, we use the technology in our production Shell Advance motorcycle oil. This means you get more life from your bike with Shell Advance and Ducati.

Founded in 1926, Ducati builds racing-inspired motorcycles characterized by unique engine features, innovative design, advanced engineering and overall technical excellence. The Company produces motorcycles in six market segments which vary in their technical and design features and intended customers: Superbike, Supersport, Monster, Sport Touring, Multistrada and the new SportClassic. THE NEW DUCATI999

The new 999 Testastretta is the most advanced, highest performance Ducati Superbike yet. Hailed by the press as the best V-twin ever built, our goal here in Bologna was to create a Superbike of stunning design and performance that improved rider ergonomics, simplified maintenance, reduced motorcycle complexity and boosted horsepower. Aerodynamics, mechanical and electronic components, chassis and running gear were developed first, styling followed. The result is a 999 that is quicker, slipperier and frankly, sexier than ever - a real race machine that epitomizes the best of Ducati's high performance tradition, but pushes that heritage fast into the future. The new 999: the Superbike formula that has dominated the sport for over a decade reigns.

Design

Two years after the launch of the first 999 models, Ducati decided it was time to update production bikes with all of the features and technological improvements developed during racetrack testing. The new 999 now features an innovative aluminium alloy two-sided box-section rear swing-arm, a true replica of the one used on the 999 Factory race bike. Handling has been enhanced with a more favourable weight/rigidity ratio. Other key modifications include: a wider and higher nose fairing (upper air intakes have been sealed) that provides better rider aerodynamics and a raised Plexiglas windscreen for better wind protection. All-new Terblend NNG02 polymer plastic fairings lower overall weight by 1 Kg. The turn indicators have been incorporated into the mirrors, which are spaced further apart, to improve aerodynamics and complement the motorcycle's clean lines.

Testastretta

The 999 Testastretta engine produces incredible linear and tractable power delivery, pumping out 140 HP at 9750 rpm and 11.1 kgm at 8000 RPM. The name "Testastretta", or "narrow head", comes from its cylinder heads that have a steep, included valve angle of only 25 degrees. Flat top pistons are the optimal choice for efficient combustion because they create the best environment for a smooth and linear combustion flame front. This allows a very compact combustion chamber and enables the use of flat top pistons while still having a high compression ratio. The new Testastretta engine, developed on the racetrack during years of competition training, has a stroke of 63.5 mm and a 100 mm bore. This short stroke lowers the average speed of the piston resulting in a higher rpm redline, maximum performance, and improved reliability.

Ergonomics

An adjustable riding position allows for optimum ergonomics, performance, handling, and control on the road and the racetrack. Fitting the 999 to individual rider size is accomplished with adjustable foot-pegs and adjustable rake, suspension and a seat/tank combination on the single-seat version with 20 mm of fore and aft travel. A well-loaded front end ensures manageable and precise control, at the same time taking the weight off the rider's wrists. The 999 is equipped with radial master cylinders with built-in reservoirs offering a wider steering angle for easier city riding.

Tech Specs

Brakes The Superbike Brembo braking system consists of twin 320 mm steel front brake discs set in a more outward position for improved cooling and a steel 240 mm diameter rear brake disc. The front brake "triple bridge" callipers are rigid for incredible stopping power and feature four 34 mm pistons and four individual sintered brake pads. The radial front brake and clutch levers are adjustable for better ergonomics. Wheels The 999 utilizes lightweight, five spoke, Y-shaped Brembo/Marchesini wheels. Suspension The 999 features a fully adjustable suspension system. Upside-down 43 mm Showa forks with low friction TiN treatment and a Showa rear shock provide a smooth ride on all road and track conditions. Swingarm The 999 now features an innovative aluminium alloy two-sided box-section rear swing-arm, a true replica of the one used on the 999 Factory race bike. Exhaust The exhaust system's innovative asymmetrical layout and the high-volume single-muffler result in significant torque at the middle of the rev range. The 999 complies with Euro 2 standards. Frame The 999's highly advanced trellis frame, constructed of metered and welded high-strength steel tubing, ensures precise handling and stability for a consistent and predictable ride. Instrument Panel The Ducati 999 utilizes an incredibly advanced instrumentation panel. Composed of a circular tachometer with a backlit, classic, white dial and LCD panel, it indicates engine coolant temperature, speed, odometer, battery voltage, air temperature, fuel consumption, code-based diagnostics and signals for 200 and 100 rpm before redline. The panel also indicates time, routine service interval and anti-theft system status.
